Trojan wrestlers get the winter season off to a good start

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa – The Worthington High School wrestling team opened their 2021-22 season with a pair of wins on Thursday in a quadrangular meet at Central Lyon High School in northwest Iowa.
The Trojans beat host Central Lyon / George-Little Rock 44-30 and also beat Sheldon / South O’Brien by a score of 44-28.
WHS wins against CL / G-LR totaled 145 pounds with Jose Alvarez (a 3:05 drop to Brock Klarenbeek), 160 with Chase Byrne (a 4-2 win over Spencer Sprock), Tanner Hennings at 220 (drop in 4:00 on Lyle Moore), drop 285 pounds Cole Hennings on Jac Van Wyhe, drop 106 pounds by Alex Galvez on Aston Van Beek, drop 2:29 by 126 pounds Ethan Meyer on Chase Duin , a fall in 3:03 of Oscar Galvez at 132 on Lane Kruger and a fall of Miat Htoo on Cam Borman at 138.
In the Sheldon / South O’Brien match, Worthington’s Tanner Hennings won in 3:43 to 220 over Carter Wohlert, Cole Hennings won in 2:55 to 285 over Kaedon Louscher, Alex Galvez won in a fall to 1: 37 over Josh Hoffman at 106, Oscar Gelvez pinned Ethan Jager at 126, Meyer won an 8-0 major decision over Anthony Escobar at 132 and Alvarez won by an 18-6 major decision over Tyson Getting to 145.
Pipestone overcomes Marshall
MARSHALL – Kindra Douty won uneven parallel bars (8.025) and Megan Lingen was first on beam (8.40) as Pipestone edged Marshall 126.40-121.10 on Thursday night.
Pipestone’s greater depth made the difference, as Douty placed second on vault, third on beam and third on floor drills. Lingen was third on bars.
Douty and Lingen finished second and third respectively in the all-around.
Marshall’s Cameen McFarquhar won the vault (8.750) and floor exercise (9.026), while also winning the all-around (32.950).
Luverne 56, Pipestone 53
LUVERNE – Elizabeth Wagner scored 19 points as host Cardinals Luverne edged Pipestone on Thursday night in a game against the Deep South.
Brooklyn Ver Steeg scored 11 points and Averill Sehr added 10 for the Cardinals.
Pipestone was led by Jadan Kor’s 19 points. Aubrea Kor added 15.

SLAYTON – Emily Rohrer had 19 points and 13 rebounds as Murray County Central dominated Lakeview on Thursday night.
Casey Miller had 10 points and six assists, and Seanna Swenson had nine points and nine rebounds for the Rebels (1-1).
For Lakeview, Paige Viaene finished with 17 points.

WESTBROOK – WWG Addison Jennings scored 16 points while teammate Izzy Klumper scored 15 points in the win over Renville Central West.
Natalie Wahl scored 8 points and Amelia Sikel 6 points. Kelsey DeSmith ended up scoring five points and Abby Wiggins scored three points.
Renville Emily Lippert scored 12 points and Holly Bratsch finished with 10 points. Hannah Pharr scored six points and Rachel Jakel finished with four points.

TYLER – Karli Arkell scored 28 points and 11 rebounds as Red Rock Central tipped Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.
Lilly Stavnes and Hailey Amsden both collected 10 points for RRC.

WACONIA – Brady Espenson scored Windom Area’s lone goal as the Eagles lost an 8-1 decision to Waconia here Thursday night.
Brett Siddons had a hat trick and Colton Rieck scored twice for Waconia.
