A day off from the Blackhawks gives us the opportunity to venture west on I-90 and check in the Rockford IceHogs, who fared much better than the Blackhawks in their opening weekend. .

The IceHogs opened the season Friday night with a terrible 6-1 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins before winning a 5-3 game with the Chicago Wolves on Saturday at Allstate Arena. The IceHogs are 1-1-0-0 so far.

Indy Fuel, the Blackhawks ECHL affiliate, kicks off their season on October 23, so they’ll be in the next farm report.

Friday October 15, 2021 – at Grand Rapids Griffins (L, 6-1)

• Let’s just say it was a HARD night for Malcom Subban in Grand Rapids.

Saturday, October 16, 2021 – at the Chicago Wolves (F, 5-3)

• Evan Barratt places the IceHogs on the Allstate Arena board.

• Lukas Reichel scores his first career AHL goal for the IceHogs, equalizing two to one!

• Cam Morrison for the lead.

• Alexander Nylander lights the lamp. 4-2 IceHogs in the third period.

The IceHogs head to Des Moines for a double weekend with the Iowa Wild. The IceHogs were 4-5-1-0 head-to-head with Iowa in 2020-21 and hold an all-time record of 39-29-5-3 against the Wild.
