A man who ran for 24 hours around Rolley Lake to raise money for Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey was honored by the association on Sunday.
Dave Linde couldn’t be at the minor hockey awards banquet on Tuesday night, so the association caught up with him early, as the first award recipient of the year.
The Pitt Meadows man raised $6,600 for the charity in October 2021. The ultra-marathoner circled Rolley Lake’s scenic trail system all day and night, occasionally running with friends.
It can be an expensive sport, and any funds he has received in pledges will be used to help hockey players pay for equipment and registration fees.
Linde said he played in the association for 15 years and the funds were his way of thanking volunteers and mentors.
“I played with RMMHA for over 15 years, from Tyke to Juvenile, and it had a huge impact on my life and shaped me who I am today,” Linde said. “I always wanted to find a way to give back to the league. Over the past few years I have taken up running/ultra running and thought it would be a great way to give back.
The association’s annual awards banquet will be held May 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Haney High School Rotunda.
