PSG eliminate defending champion Lyon to reach WCL semi-finals

LYON, France – Paris Saint-Germain turned the tables against five-time defending champion Lyon, winning the second leg of their Women’s Champions League quarter-final 2-1 on Sunday to reach the semi-final 2-2 in the away goals.
Jordyn Huitema of Chilliwack, BC, is a forward for PSG and Ashley Lawrence of Toronto is a club defender.
The Canadians, along with their PSG teammates, face Barcelona in a two-match semi-final on April 24 on May 1.
Kadeisha Buchanan of Toronto is a defenseman for the seven-time champion Lyon, who was undefeated in 31 games in the competition.
Lyon entered the home game 1-0 from Paris and went further with a goal from USA striker Catarina Macario after just four minutes.
But PSG, who also inflicted a rare defeat on Lyon at the start of the French league season, showed resilience to strike back through midfielder Grace Geyoro midway through the first half.
The PSG winner came from an own goal in the 61st minute from center-back Wendie Renard, who netted a penalty for Lyon in Paris and scored 116 goals behind for the club since his debut in 2006 .
But this time, the prolific Lyon captain scored in the wrong net as she tried to cut Kadidiatou Diani’s cross from the right, and deflected the ball in front of goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi.
PSG are on track to reach two Champions League finals, with the men’s side knocking out another defending champion at Bayern in the quarter-finals.
