Finland announces roster of World Hockey Championships
Finland is the latest country to unveil its list for the next World Championships which start on Friday. Although they have a lot of players in the NHL, this team is made up mostly of players from overseas leagues. Their list is as follows, with NHL affiliations indicated where applicable.
Oliwer Kaski (RCA)
Petteri lindbohm (STL)
Olli Maatta (LA)
Kim nousiainen (THE)
Axel Rindell (TOR)
Tony sund (SJ)
Anton Lundell (FLA)
Saku maenalanen (CAR)
Valtteri Puustinen (PIT)
Arttu Ruotsalainen (BUF)
It is a very inexperienced group at the international level with no less than 14 players making their debut at the Worlds. Among the notable names on the list is Maatta, an eight-season NHL veteran. He’s just come off a particularly quiet year with the Kings when he got just four assists in 41 games averaging just 16:26 per game, the lowest ATOI of his career. He should be in line for a much bigger role in this tournament. Ruotsalainen saw regular action down the home stretch for Buffalo and in a team that struggled to score he wasn’t bad in that regard, scoring five goals in 17 games while recording almost 14 minutes a night , numbers that are not bad for a beginner.
On the prospect side, for those who haven’t made their NHL debut, Lundell is the name that stands out. The 12th pick overall last fall, he averaged nearly one point per game in 26 games with HIFK in the SM-liiga and was tied for third at the World Juniors. It looks like he will be a big part of Florida’s future. Puustinen was a seventh (203rd overall) in 2019 for the Penguins and appears to have surpassed that draft before, finishing second on goal with HIFK with 21 goals and 20 assists in 51 games, which helped him win a contract for ‘entry level. with the penguins earlier this month.
Finland’s tournament kicks off next Saturday with a game against the United States.
