Fantasy Hockey Goalie Stream for Week 1
Ilya Sorokin (83%)
Chances are, Sorokin is not available to you. However, with Semyon Varlamov (97%) on the board for likely at least the first week, odds are Sorokin gets both starts this week for the New York Islanders in good defense. The Islanders face two great road teams in Carolina on Thursday and Florida on Saturday. If you’re lucky enough to be in a league where Sorokin is still on edge, catch him now. He’s a great pick every night he debuts and this week will be a good opportunity for him to prove he’s ready for a bigger role with the Islanders.
Jake Allen (28%)
With Carey Price (87%) absent indefinitely, Jake Allen will be the de facto holder of the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs are one of nine teams playing three games this week. Allen is a lock to play at least two of them. Montreal travels to Toronto on Wednesday and Buffalo on Thursday and ends the week at home against the New York Rangers on Saturday. Allen currently has low ownership but that won’t last long.
Kevin Lankinen (36%)
Now that future Hall of Fame keeper Marc-André Fleury (100%) is in town, Lankinen should only play a backup role in Chicago. The Blackhawks have been surprisingly good last for much of last season. This year they look even better on paper. Lankinen could be a good start to the season all season. The Blackhawks have a back-to-back situation this weekend playing in New Jersey on Friday and Pittsburgh on Saturday. Lankinen will likely get one of those games and if we were to guess it will be Friday against the Devils so Fleury gets the green light against his former team on Saturday.
Petr Mrazek (69%)
Jack Campbell (97%) will have to share the net this year with Mrazek. It is not yet clear which goalkeeper will play the most. This is probably a fairly even split or a situation where the coach has a hot hand. Regardless, the Leafs kick off the season with a Wednesday / Thursday duel against the Canadiens and the Senators. Mrazek will likely play one of them. If he’s available in your league, Mrazek is a good bet. He will want to impress his new team from his first start.
Jaroslav Halak (11%)
The Vancouver Canucks start the season with a three-game road trip with a back-to-back Friday / Saturday game. Starter Thatcher Demko (98%) is in contention for two games, but Halak will likely get one of the weekend games, either Friday in Philadelphia or Saturday in Detroit. If none of the other best options above are available to you, then Halak is probably not being held in your league and could be a decent streaming option.
